Compare Oregon car insurance in one phone call

Oregon requires 25/50/20 in liability plus $15,000 of personal injury protection on every policy. Beyond that floor, carriers price the same driver very differently, because each one files its own rating formula with the state. We connect you to licensed Oregon agents who price several at once.

Changed 1 January 2026

Oregon cut the driving-uninsured SR-22 from three years to one

Senate Bill 840 shortened the SR-22 filing period for driving-uninsured convictions dated on or after 2026-01-01. Filings triggered by a crash while uninsured still run three years, and DUII filings still run three years. SB 840 also repealed the automatic one-year licence suspension the DMV previously issued after an uninsured crash.

If you are being quoted a three-year filing for a driving-uninsured conviction dated this year, that is worth questioning before you sign anything.

What Oregon actually requires

One statewide minimum, no city adds to it, and it is lower than most drivers assume once you look at what each line pays for.

CoverageOregon minimumWhat it actually pays
Bodily injury liability$25,000 per person / $50,000 per crashInjuries you cause to other people. Does not pay for your own.
Property damage liability$20,000 per crashDamage you cause to someone else's vehicle or property.
Personal injury protection (PIP)$15,000 per personMedical bills for you and your passengers, regardless of who caused the crash.
Uninsured motorist$25,000 per person / $50,000 per crashYour injuries when the at-fault driver has no insurance or too little of it.

The property damage line is the one worth sitting with. $20,000 is the entire legal requirement for damage you cause to someone else's vehicle, and a single newer SUV can exceed it before anyone is hurt. Everything past your limit comes from you.

What we help with

Find your city

Why trust this page

Check the source, not the sales pitch

Insurance sites are full of five-star quotes you have no way to verify. We would rather be checkable than flattering, so every rule quoted on this site links to the Oregon government page it came from. Follow any of them.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum car insurance required in Oregon?

$25,000 bodily injury per person, $50,000 per crash, $20,000 property damage, $15,000 personal injury protection, and uninsured motorist coverage matching your bodily injury limits. Driving without liability coverage in Oregon is illegal.

Is Oregon a no-fault state?

Oregon is an at-fault (tort) state. The driver responsible for a crash is liable for the damage, and their liability coverage pays the other party. Mandatory PIP sits on top of that as a first-payer for medical bills, but it does not make Oregon a no-fault state and it does not limit your right to sue.

Did Oregon change its SR-22 rules in 2026?

Senate Bill 840 shortened the SR-22 filing period for driving-uninsured convictions from three years to one year, for convictions dated on or after 1 January 2026. SR-22 filings triggered by a crash while uninsured still run three years. SB 840 also repealed the automatic one-year licence suspension the DMV previously issued after an uninsured crash.

Does Portland Insure sell insurance?

Portland Insure is a free comparison and referral service, not an insurance company and not a licensed insurance agency. Calls are connected to licensed insurance producers who can quote and bind coverage in Oregon. We do not charge consumers for this service.

Why is there no quote form on this site?

Because a form cannot ask a follow-up question. The variables that actually decide your premium, which carriers will write your record and which vehicle a teen gets assigned to, are conversations. A call gets a real answer in about ten minutes; a form gets you an email sequence.

What does this cost me?

Nothing. Comparison and referral is free to you. We are paid by the carriers and agencies we refer to, never by consumers, and there is no obligation to buy anything.
